Visiting Florida? Here are the top things to see and do

One of the things many people don’t know about me is that I love Florida. That doesn’t mean that I would live there, but I think that there are few other states with as many things to see and do as Florida, and I like to visit at least once a year.

Here are a few things I like to do in Florida:

Visit the Everglades

As someone who lived briefly in Australia, and watched one too many documentaries, I have to admit that I’m scared of crocodiles. That’s why I wasn’t sure if I would really love the Everglades. But alligators are so much cuter. First of all, unlike crocs, which like to hunt humans, alligators prefer to stay far from us and like to do their own thing. I can respect that. There are also tons of other animals to see in this area, and it’s super easy to take a trip to the Everglades from Miami- especially if you use car rental in Fort Lauderdale.

Shop ‘til you drop

If there’s one thing I love about Florida, it’s the many outlet malls. I only had a day to shop, and I was completely exhausted afterward (and didn’t even make it through a third of one of the outlet malls). I saw a number of people dragging suitcases with them, which is a genius idea that I highly recommend, since hiring a trolley costs around $8.

Hit the theme parks

No trip to Florida is complete without a visit to Orlando and the theme parks. If you’ve got small kids, a trip to Disneyworld is a must. And if you’re a kid at heart yourself, head to Universal Studios where you can ride some of the best roller coasters around (and see Harry Potter World of course).

Enjoy Beach life

If there’s one thing Florida has going for it, it’s the beaches. You’re guaranteed to be able to find a beach that suits you, whether you like to lounge in Miami or get further off the beaten path. This is why it’s often a good idea to hire a car, since you can do some research and find a beach that’s not so crowded.

Party all night

Miami is well-known for its nightlife, and you can’t go wrong in Southbeach. Do your research ahead of time to see where the best parties are, and dress up well if you want to skip the lines.
